The Comparative Studies on Antidiabetic Activities of Lycium Drugs

Abstract
Studies were attempted to compare the antidiabetic activities of Lycium drugs(Lycii Fructus, Lycii Cortex Radicis and Lycii Folium) on the hyperglycemia induced by streptozotocin in rats.
The water extracts(100, 200, 400mg/kg) and methanol extracts(100, 200, 400mg/kg) of them were administered before and after injection of cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels were determined at 96 hours after streptozotocin injection respectively.
The results were as follow :
1. The blood gulcose levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were dose dependently decreased by administration of various doses(100, 200, 400mg/kg) of Lycium drugs. Particularly, all the experimental groups of the methanol extracts of Lycii Folium and water extracts of Lycii Cortex Radicis were significantly shown to decrease levels when comparing with streptozotocin control group.
2. the serum total cholesterol levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were decreased by the administrations of various doses of the Lycium drugs except water extract(100mg/kg) of Lycii Fructus. And also the water extracts(100, 200, 400mg/kg) of Lycii Folium were shown to decrease significantly.
3. The serum triglyceride levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were diminished remarkably by the administrations of the methanol extract(100, 200, 400mg/kg) of Lycii Folium.
